This is the official
site of the Swedish composer/musician/artist known as
Phanatos.
(For site info, scroll down)
The
formation of Phanatos was initiated somewhere in 1999
and 2000, when the first musical ideas in this shape
began to take its form.
The
idea was to create something reflecting Phanatos’
emotions; dark, yet with a romantic touch; with
melancholy yet with desire.
After some embryonic
musical formations the entity of Part I – III
started to take form, and was continued worked on in
2000 and 2001, to reach their completion in 2001. Then
the uncountable hours of effort, lust, and realization
of the composing and recording process finally reached
its ultimate objective. From the very most inner, and
dark corners of the mind of Phanatos, this expression
had been captured. Performed with synths and featuring a
gothic/neo-classical by fallen angel(s) touched
creation. Inspiration from gothic metal, classical- and
film music, and ambient/darkwave, yet with the very own
personal style of Phanatos.
With a base of strings and
piano sounds and also a quite doom/gothic-influenced
drum track style. And also featuring a twin flute
concept, with two flutes (sounds) playing different
melody parts but yet creating an entirety. This flute
“concept” can be found especially here and there in Part
I – III, but will also return in some places in the
succeeding parts of this larger opus unofficially known
as Opus 1…
Because after having
finished the Part I – III, the idea and emotional and
artistic incitement came, to continue this musical
expressive journey that had been commenced, and creating
more parts in the same style (regarding the choice of
“instrumentation set” and expressional style). The idea
and concept of the continuing three parts, Part IV –
VI did not wait too long for itself. Picking up the
threads where the first three parts had ended and now
presenting a (for Phanatos) natural continuation of this
musical journey, or emotional wanderings, you might
wanna call it.
Like with Part I – III, or
maybe even more, Part IV – VI features much influences
from film music and films, as well as classical music.
And on these parts you can
for the first time here the voice of Phanatos, in the
shape of spoken words on “Part V”. And Part IV and VI
also feature vocals, sung parts, performed by
singer Karin Ljungberg.
Now the idea of this opus
was to create a work consisting of totally nine parts,
and with that, the formation/composing and
ideas-spawning was commenced for the continuing three
parts. Which were to become the finishing three parts
and symbolizing/representing the closure, the
completion of this opus. Both “music term
technically” but also being the closure to the personal
emotional journey that this opus was created as. Like
the ending chapter of an extensive book, written with
the heart-soiled musical themes and expressions and a
mind-full manifest of different emotions, desires and
un-desires.
The last three parts
(logically) known as Part VII – IX was created
between 2003 and 2005; and now features some singing by
Phanatos. And “recitation” of own words/poetry. And the
music having progressed although still lurking within
the frames of the concept of this opus as an entity.
As always a mixture of
filmic moods and “musical spheres”, and classical
influences soulfully exclaimed, over all a very gothic
feel to it, in the true sense of the word when it comes
to literature or music.
The completion of this
opus “Part I – IX”, was a very pleasant and rewarding
emotional experience for Phanatos. To feel something
that had been worked on for so long; so much
compositional effort, so very much emotions, and such a
long, regardig time – project now was finished;
completed. To come to an end with such project, AND
knowing that what has been created is exactly what you
intended to create (through thousands of the creator’s
artistic conscious and even sometime unconscious
“choices”), knowing that the emotions and vast effort
behind every melody, every theme, every composition
overall is your own expression, and what you and your
heart and mind had intent to express, for yourself
primary but also for the outside world. THAT is the core
of artistic expression, at least for Phanatos…
That is why he created
this extensive time-spanning and “emotion-spanning”
opus……
….and that is why he now continues with the realization
of his SECOND extensive opus!!
